Rising Up: Mrs. Nyuswa’s Story

At 53 years old, Mrs. Nyuswa is building something that reaches far beyond her tuck shop in Swayimane.

Since joining Zimele in 2022, she has been part of the Sukuma Group—meaning “rise up.” And that’s exactly what she has been doing.

Through self-help group training, Mrs. Nyuswa has gained the skills and confidence to work alongside others to save money and manage finances. She has also developed strong bookkeeping skills, allowing her to carefully track her business income and expenses—an essential step in growing a sustainable business.

Today, her tuck shop is more than a source of income. It is a foundation of stability for her family. With the knowledge and discipline she has built, she is able to meet her family’s needs and improve their overall well-being.

“I’ve learned how to manage my finances and grow my business—and now I can support my family and plan for the future.”

Mrs. Nyuswa dreams of expanding her business—ensuring it continues to grow and sustain her family for years to come. She also hopes to create opportunities for others, using her business to provide employment and make a meaningful impact in her community.

Her story is one of steady growth, determination, and vision.

And like the name of her group, she continues to rise.
